Nationals’ Trea Turner Hits For The Cycle Against Rockies Again [VIDEO]

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner without a doubt enjoys hitting against the Colorado Rockies. Now, for the second time during his five-year career, Turner hit for the cycle against Colorado on Tuesday night.

Turner shot out of the gate with an explosion, starting the game with a home run to center-field off Peter Lambert. The next inning, Turner followed up with a ground-ball single. After facing Lambert for the third time, Turner ripped a ball that trickled down the right-field line after ricocheting off Charlie Blackmon‘s glove, which allowed him to race around the basses and slide into third base with a triple. Turner grounded into a double play during his next at-bat, thus serving as somewhat of a cool-down period before finishing things off, as he next next shot a ball into right-center for a double, thus completing the cycle. Thanks to Turner, the Nationals walked away victorious with an 11–1 advantage.

Turner now joins Fred Clarke and Christian Yelich as the only MLB players with more than one cycle against the same team. Turner’s first cycle against the Rockies came two seasons ago, on April 25, 2017, as he saw his team take that contest as well with a 15–12 score.

“It’s a feat that doesn’t happen often,” said Nationals manger Davey Martinez. “To be able to do it twice — that, to me, is a testament to how good a player Trea really is.”

Amidst his achievement, Turner still remained humble as he stated, “It’s almost more funny than anything that I got lucky enough to get all the right hits. I think it’s kind of a lucky stat, just because you’ve got to put the ball in the right place at the right time. And I ended up doing that.”

Turner, who came off the 60–day injury list after missing six weeks with a fractured index finger, continues to help fuel the quiet, yet continually burning, fire in Washington. The Nationals own the league’s best record since May 24 and surprisingly remain a part of the NL playoff picture, currently holding onto the first Wild Card spot by a half game. Turner posts an admirable .286 batting average and acts as a menacing presence on the bases for opposing pitchers, already with 20 stolen bases.

Looking to possibly add a historic fourth cycle to his resume, Turner aims to continue his excellence as the Nationals continue their series against the Rockies this week before truly testing their playoff aspirations with a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
