The Miami Marlins are in third place in the NL East, and seven games back from a wild-card spot.

Miami finished the 2024 season with a 62-100 record, finishing last in the NL East.

The Marlins made minimal moves in the offseason as starting pitcher Cal Quantrill and first baseman Eric Wagaman were the only two big league signings.

Miami’s most significant need was a manager, as the former manager, Skip Schumaker and Miami’s front office mutually parted ways after the 2024 season. Miami hired Clayton McCullough, who was previously the first base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Marlins have been up and down throughout the season, led by Kyle Stowers and Xavier Edwards.

Miami is top 10 in batting average and avoiding striking out, but is in the bottom 10 for home runs. Miami is also in the bottom half of the league for on-base percentage, slugging percentage, RBIs and walks.

The pitching unit has struggled for Miami, led by starters Eury Perez and Edward Cabrera. Anthony Bender has also been a major contributor from the bullpen.

The Marlins are in the top 10 for preventing home runs and are in the top half of the league at avoiding walks. However, the Marlins rank in the bottom 10 for ERA and strikeouts, and in the bottom half of the league for batting average allowed, walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP).

Miami is currently the youngest team in the MLB with an average age of 27.41. For the youngest team in baseball, Miami is putting together a solid season, despite being five games under .500, and seven games outside of a wild-card spot.

The Marlins have been in trade rumors surrounding Cabrera and 2022 Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara.

Alcantara has struggled to get back to his Cy Young form, and it didn’t help that he missed the 2024 season with Tommy John surgery.

This season, he has struggled, with an ERA of 6.66, and his WHIP is 1.43. While his numbers may be down, multiple teams are interested as contenders look to strengthen their pitching rotation.

While it’s unlikely that the Marlins make the postseason, the 2025 season has been a step in the right direction for Miami.
