Newcastle United midfielder Andros Townsend and Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater both missed out on being named to Hodgson’s preliminary squad. Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph already left the group due to a groin injury.
Townsend failed to start either of England’s two warm-up friendlies thus far, against Turkey and Australia, instead coming on as a substitute in the second game while Drinkwater played 16 minutes against Turkey and the full 90 against Australia.
Rashford, meanwhile, scored on his international debut against Australia and will play as one of five strikers for England’s National Team. The 18-year-old, who scored eight goals for United last season, will join Sturridge, Tottenham star Harry Kane, Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Three Lions captain Wayne Rooney as a forward.

Sturridge, 26, has struggled with injury throughout the season, and reports hinted he was nervous about being selected to the team for Euro 2016. In the end, former Fulham manager Hodgson decided to gamble on the Liverpool star’s health.
Hodgson also chose Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere despite his lack of club football this season. Manchester City’s Joe Hart has been named the starting goalkeeper for the team.
Sturridge will wear the number 15 shirt at the tournament in France, while Rashford has been handed the number 22. Kane will wear nine, while Vardy has been handed 11. Rooney retains his preferred number 10.
The group departs for Chantilly, to the north of Paris, on Monday, ready for their opening Group B fixture, against Russia in Marseille on June 11.
