In a pivotal Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Luka Doncic’s frustrations reached a boiling point, culminating in a series of fouls that saw him exit the game with just over four minutes remaining.

The Dallas Mavericks, who had clawed back from a 21-point deficit, found themselves within striking distance of the Boston Celtics, trailing by just three points. Doncic’s disqualification could not have come at a worse time for Dallas.

Doncic’s behavior on the court was marked by frequent complaints to the referees about perceived missed calls. His mounting frustration led to two ill-advised fouls, hastening his exit from the game.

In the aftermath, a contrite Doncic apologized to his teammates, acknowledging his lapse in judgment. “My bad. You can’t do that, especially in the NBA Finals,” he admitted in an interview with ESPN.

Reflecting on his fouling out, Doncic expressed regret over his actions. “It was tough. Probably wasn’t the smartest thing,” he said to NBC Sports. The star guard detailed the sequence of his fouls, including a frustration foul and a bad steal attempt, ultimately leading to his downfall. His sixth and final foul, a blocking call while defending Jaylen Brown, sealed his fate and left the Mavericks without their best offensive player at a critical juncture.

The Doncic who spoke to ESPN was more composed than the one who left the court in frustration. “We couldn’t play physical,” he said of his final foul. “I don’t know. I don’t want to say nothing. You know, six fouls in the NBA Finals, basically I’m like this [motions with palms out]. C’mon, man. [Be] better than that.”

The Mavericks’ comeback effort in Game 3 highlighted their potential to compete at the highest level. As Dallas prepares for Game 4, the team will look to its leader to channel his frustrations more constructively and guide them to victory.
