Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp felt that his team’s fans hit recreated the historic atmosphere the club became famous for during their 2-0 Europa League victory over Manchester United on Thursday night.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp Impressed By Anfield Atmosphere Vs Manchester United

The noise at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium was amplified during Thursday night’s last-16 matchup as the two teams met in continental competition for the first time. The Kop stands already rang loud long before kick off, with the rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” lasting nearly five minutes.

The noise increased even more after Daniel Sturridge converted a penalty to open the scoring in the first leg for the Liverpool Reds. Roberto Firminio scored the second goal in the 73rd minute, after which a red flare was set off in the Main Stand as the home fans swung their scarves in unison.

“The atmosphere tonight was unbelievable. It was really great and I want to say thank you to everybody that was involved in this atmosphere,” said Klopp. “It was easy to enjoy from the first until the last second. That was Liverpool how I knew it before I came here, so that was really, really great. Thank you for this.”

Man U manager Louis van Gaal urged United fans to show the same type of support in the second leg match next week. “I have to say that Liverpool created an atmosphere that was fantastic,” he said.
