MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has been forced to answer for his actions when it comes to the punishment of those in the Houston Astros organization as many feel he went to easy on them, especially the players.
His latest apology has come from his comments about the World Series trophy, which is called the Commissioner’s Trophy, which he referred to as a “piece of metal,” leaving many with a bad taste in their mouths.
“I referred to the World Series trophy in a disrespectful way, and I want to apologize for it,” Manfred said. “There’s no excuse for it…. It was a mistake to say what I said.”
Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, a two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and 2013 and a champion with the Cubs in 2016, had words for the commissioner.

“That’s somebody that has never played our game. You play for a reason, you play for that piece of metal,” Lester said. “I’m very proud of the three that I have. If that’s the way he feels, then he needs to take his name off the trophy.”
It isn’t just baseball players speaking out against Manfred. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter.
“I know if someone cheated me out of winning the title and I found out about it I would be (expletive) irate,” James wrote. He concluded by speaking directly to Manfred: “…fix this for the sake of Sports!”
