Laura Rutledge Departs ‘SEC Nation’ – But Not ESPN

Laura Rutledge is stepping away from SCC Networks’ flagship pregame show after a decade-long run that helped make her one of the more recognizable faces in college football, especially on television.

Rutledge announced last week that she will leave her role as host of SEC Nation ahead of the 2026 college football season. The move marks the end of a great 10-year run—one of the most successful in SEC Network history—and represents a major shift in ESPN’s college football coverage.

Rutledge joined ESPN in 2014 and quickly became a key part of the network’s SEC coverage. She eventually took over as host of SEC Nation, where her ability to balance interviews and storytelling helped turn the Saturday morning show into one of college football’s most-watched programs. Rutledge has worked alongside Tim Tebow, Paul Finebaum and Roman Harper while traveling to SEC campuses each week.

The decision does not mean Rutledge is leaving ESPN – she is expected to take on an expanded NFL role as the network prepares for Super Bowl coverage in 2027. Rutledge also hosts NFL Live and serves as a sideline reporter for Monday Night Football—responsibilities that have grown significantly in recent years.

ESPN executives praised Rutledge’s impact on the network and on college football coverage, noting her ability to connect with fans throughout the country.

Rutledge’s departure marks the end of an era for SEC Network and highlights her continued rise at ESPN as she transitions to greater NFL coverage.
