Dolphins’ RB De’Von Achane Out For The Year, Raising Prospects For First Ever 0-17 Season

Miami’s situation has gone from bad to worse for the Dolphins. Star RB De’Von Achane suffered a torn ACL this past weekend and is out for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The Dolphins were rated at the bottom of the power rankings heading into the season, with some experts saying they could be the first team to go 0-17. Miami’s one bright spot was their star RB, who had a breakout season last year, posting 1,350 rushing yards and 488 receiving yards, along with 12 touchdowns.

The Dolphins hoped that their offseason acquisition of Malik Willis, paired with Achane, could shine a glimmer of hope for a roster that is very slim in talent. The problem for Achane and Willis was the same as many of the recent seasons in Miami: the offensive line, which made it tough for the two to produce in the first few weeks.

Achane’s injury was immediately thought to be serious. Even though he left the field without a cart immediately after the game, head coach Jeff Hafley said that things did “not sound very optimistic,” even though the coach hadn’t gotten any information yet regarding the results of the tests.

Now 0-3, the Dolphins have little to look forward to for the rest of the year. They are 30/1 underdogs to make the playoffs now, a line unheard of at this time of year with so many things left to play out in the season.

The Dolphins are not expected to make many season-altering moves in the coming weeks. The feeling from Dolphins fans is that the towel has already been thrown in. It’s hard to even call it a rebuild year; the Dolphins lacked a vision for the future before this year even began, and now, with one of their bright spots out for the season, the likelihood of them turning it around is slim.
