Lakers’ Anthony Davis Out At Least Four Weeks With Foot Sprain

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis will be out at least four weeks after an MRI revealed a mid-foot sprain.

Davis sustained the injury in L.A.’s 106-101 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. He was hurt when he jumped to catch a lob pass from Malik Monk and landed on Rudy Gobert’s heel. His right ankle rolled and he fell to the floor as he clutched his lower leg in pain.

X-rays that evening showed no fracture, but an MRI Thursday revealed the sprain. Team doctors will re-evaluate Davis after the four weeks.

Lakers uber star LeBron James said Davis left the arena on crutches. Davis had missed 17 straight games from late December to late January with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

The Lakers entered play Thursday ninth in the Western Conference (27-31), six games behind the sixth-seeded Denver Nuggets; the sixth seed is the final team to avoid the play-in tournament. L.A., though, has a four-game lead on the 11th-seeded—the final playoff spot—New Orleans Pelicans.

If all goes according to plan, he would only miss about another 11 games.
