There have been various calls for the NBA to change their iconic logo to feature Kobe Bryant as its new logo. This idea has been circulated around following Bryant’s tragic death in January 2020, and it has been reignited once again.
Brooklyn Nets’ star Kyrie Irving posted a photo of Bryant as the league’s logo on the one-year anniversary of the memorial service for Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. The post was captioned with the words, “Gotta happen, idc what anyone says.” The words echoed what many fans and players have wanted the league to do to honor the deceased Hall of Famer.
The current NBA logo is a silhouette of Hall of Famer Jerry West. West played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1960-1974 and was the former general manager for the Lakers. West is currently an executive board member for the Clippers. In 2017, West spoke about changing the logo and was supportive and even encouraged the league to update the logo.
