Six-time NBA All-Star Kyle Lowry plans to sign a one-day contract with the Toronto Raptors before officially announcing his retirement. The move allows him to end his 20-year NBA career with the franchise where he became a champion and one of the most beloved players in team history.

Lowry’s decision brings a fitting conclusion to a remarkable NBA journey that began in 2006, when the Memphis Grizzlies selected him with the 24th overall pick in the NBA Draft. After stints with the Grizzlies and Houston Rockets, Lowry was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2012—a move that changed the course of his career and the Raptors’ franchise.

During his nine seasons with the Raptors, Lowry developed into one of the NBA’s premier point guards. He earned six consecutive All-Star selections from 2015 to 2020 while helping Toronto transform from a rebuilding team to a perennial championship contender.

The highlight of Lowry’s career came during the 2018-19 season, when he helped lead Toronto to its first NBA championship by defeating the Golden State Warriors in six games.

In Game 6, Lowry delivered 26 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in one of the defining performances of his career. The Raptors beat the Warriors, who were without Kevin Durant (torn Achilles in Game 5) and had lost Klay Thompson (torn ACL in Game 6), to secure the title.

Lowry’s accomplishments include winning a gold medal with Team USA at the 2016 Olympics. Known as the ultimate team player, he cements his status as a Toronto legend with his 20-year career.
