LAS VEGAS, NV - MARCH 12: Joey Logano, driver of the #22 Pennzoil Ford, leads Kyle Busch, driver of the #18 M&M's Toyota, during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 12, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Usually when Kyle Busch wins a race, he bows to the crowd, but on Monday, after winning his 97th career Xfinity Series Race, edging out Austin Cindric in the final lap of the overtime period, Busch opted not to do his patented celebration. “It kinda felt a little odd. I guess I could have bowed to the camera,” he said.
Monday’s race was sent into overtime after a late crash, and when the race restarted, it was Cindric who looked like he would ultimately come out victorious as he took the lead away from Busch, saying that he really wanted to win. “To almost beat one of the best in the business on worse tires, I never lifted, I never lifted until I knew I was done,” he said. “I wanted to win so bad.”
Busch seemed to have control of the race throughout, leading after the first two stages but a speeding penalty along pit row dropped him to tenth with under 40 laps to go. Fortunately for Busch, there were six restarts in the final 45 laps, which allowed him to slowly make his way back into the lead.
The win was Busch’s 97th on the Xfinity series as mentioned, but it was also the 210th of his career, the most of any racer across NASCAR’s top three series, passing Richard Petty.
