Shea Patterson
The defending champions of the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs are not done improving their roster, as they signed former University of Michigan standout quarterback Shea Patterson to be a backup behind star Patrick Mahomes.
Patterson was not one of the 10 Michigan Wolverines selected in the NFL Draft a couple of weeks ago.
Patterson started his college career at Ole Miss where he was a back up to Chad Kelly until stepping as the starter once Kelly got injured in 2016. In 2017, as Ole Miss’ full-time starter, Patterson played well, passing for over 2200 yards and 17 touchdowns in his first 7 games, until a knee injury ended his season.
He transferred to Michigan before the 2018 season, where he played his final two seasons of college football. In those two years, Patterson threw for over 5600 yards, 45 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. This all while leading the Wolverines to a 19-7 record and being named to the Third-Team All-BIG 10 both seasons.

Patterson will now have to compete with NFL journeyman Chad Henne and 2nd-year quarterback and former teammate of Patterson’s at Ole Miss, Jordan Ta’amu for the primary backup position behind Mahomes.
