In the NFL, you would think every stadium’s turf that is played on each Sunday would be top-notch ready for regular season football games. That is not the case for the San Francisco 49ers’ field at their new stadium Levi’s Stadium, which just opened last year after the famed Candlestick Park shut its doors. After problems with getting the field fixed up to the right coordinates in the past, the turf has struck again but this time while a game was being played.

In the fourth quarter yesterday with the 49ers leading the Baltimore Ravens 19-13, Ravens field goal kicker Justin Tucker lined up for a 45-yard field goal to hopefully bring them within three points in a close matchup. When the kicker was about to kick the football, it looked as if Tucker’s left foot sank in the turf like quicksand, causing the kicker to lose his balance and having the football hit the right goal post. This is unheard of for Tucker who has been superb with field goals this year, making 13 of 16 field goals for the the season.

This unfortunate event another setback for the Ravens, who have now lost five of their first six games for the year and seem to be out of reach for any contention in their tough AFC North division.
