Josh Norman To Miss Several Weeks After Broken Rib

Josh Norman will be sitting out for a few weeks.

Josh Norman Rib Injury News

The Washington Redskins cornerback suffered a fractured rib during the second quarter of Monday night’s 29-20 defeat to the Chiefs in Kansas City.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said following the game that Norman would be further evaluated on Tuesday.

Norman, 29, left just before halftime after assisting on a tackle of receiver Chris Conley. He sustained the injury while attempting to tackle tight end Travis Kelce following a long catch and run.

“That’s the first time that’s ever happened to where I couldn’t get out there,” said Norman, who hasn’t missed a game since the 2014 season. “I just have to take my time and have faith.

“I wanted to go out there, but do I more help the team or hurt the team if I can’t really run and breathe hard?”

Norman was replaced by Quinton Dunbar, and Bashaud Breeland shifted to the left side, where Norman usually plays.

Norman, a one-time Pro Bowler, is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. He signed a $75 million contract with the Redskins in 2016 and was a First Team All-Pro selection with the Carolina Panthers in 2015.

The cornerback recently announced he is donating $100,000 to Puerto Rico following the island’s devastation by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The Redskins (2-2, 3rd in NFC East) have a bye week and then host the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 15. The Chiefs (4-0) are the only undefeated team in the NFL, and next visit the Houston Texans on Sunday.
