The first big offseason transaction has happened in the MLB and it occurred yesterday amid a slew of starting pitchers on the free agency market. It involved former Washington Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann and the Detroit Tigers yesterday.

Both sides agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract which would land Zimmermann on his second team since joining MLB. At age 29, Zimmermann’s numbers last year were complete with a 13-10 record in 33 starts with a 3.66 ERA. What is more impressive is the 58-32 record with a 3.13 ERA he has posted in the past four years. Overall, he has gone 70-50 with a 3.32 ERA during his tenure with the Nationals while also being a two-time All-Star. He also pitched a no-hitter on the last game of the 2014 season against the Miami Marlins. Zimmermann joins the likes of Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez with a plan to look for a fourth starter and have a youngster from the farm system round out the Tigers pitching rotation.

The Tigers finished last in the AL Central last season with a 74-88 record.
