Jordan Spieth made his way to the upcoming 2016 Masters at Augusta National with mixed emotions after missing out on a second victory of the year.

Jordan Spieth Misses Out On Second Victory Of Year At Shell Houston Open

Spieth, 22, began the final round of the Shell Houston Open in Humble, Texas, on Sunday five shots behind, but birdied five of his first seven holes to reduce his deficit to a single shot before fading badly on the back nine.

The World No. 2 played his last 10 holes in three over par, including a double bogey on the 18th, to earn a final score of 70 and end in a tie for 13th place, just seven shots behind champion Jim Herman.

“It’s tough,” Spieth told reporters. “I mean, I had it going there. With the conditions, two under was a very average score. So a very disappointing finish.”

Spieth then added, “Good news is I got myself in contention, I felt the nerves. I know what I need to work on under pressure now for next week, and everything is there. I just need to put it all together and limit the mistakes. Five over-par holes, that needs to be limited going into a major.”

Herman scored a crucial birdie on the 16th as he carded a final score of 68, just one shot ahead of Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, who also shot 68 and missed from 15 feet for a birdie on the last.

American Dustin Johnson came in third after closing with 69, while Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello finished fourth after closing with 65.

Spieth is headed to his Masters title defense in Augusta, Georgia later this week.
