Jim Harbaugh Smashes A Buckeye On Bo Schembechler’s Grave

For all of his success on the field, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh can be a pretty weird guy.

In the past, he’s been known to randomly tweet at rappers, ran around a high school football camp shirtless but still in his signature khakis, and admitted to calling his future wife nine times in a row before they went on their first date. So perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that he took a Wolverine tradition to the next level.

Every year before the big game against Ohio State, there is a “cemetery walk” past the graves of legendary coaches Fielding Yost and Bo Schembechler in addition to former Michigan radio broadcaster Bob Ufer. Not only was Harbaugh the first coach to ever attend, but he spoke at the grave of Schembechler, his former coach.

After his words, Harbaugh produced a literal buckeye nut and placed it on top of Schembechler’s grave. He then smashed it with a yellow hammer, hopefully setting the tone for this weekend’s match-up between his Wolverines and the Buckeyes.
