It took nearly a year, but the New York Jets were able to secure themselves their first win of the season. It took an amazing 358 days to do so.
The Jets were able to pull an upset with a 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams Sunday night. Although it was surprising and exciting for the Jets to win, they have lost their chance at getting the first pick in the draft.
New York’s win meant that they are no longer the front-runners for the first pick in the 2021 NFL draft. New York will miss out on the chance of drafting the highly coveted Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The win ensured the Jacksonville Jaguars being the front runners for the first pick. The Jaguars currently have the tie-breaker over the Jets for the pick.
Jets coach Adam Gase disagreed about the team being better off losing, “Hey, our job is to try to go out and win every week.” New York quarterback Sam Darnold was excited about the win. “It’s an amazing feeling,” he said.

The win allowed New York to end their 13 game losing streak, the longest in the franchise. They also eliminated the possibility of becoming just the third team in NFL history to finish the season with zero wins.
For the Rams, the loss prevented them from clinching a playoff berth and effectively knocked them out of first place from their division. Rams coach Sean McVay spoke about the shocking loss. “This loss will demoralize us only as much as we allow it to,” he said. “It’s going to be embarrassing, sick to your stomach about it.”
