Interactive Twitter Map Breaks Down NBA Fandom

Yesterday Twitter user @kristw rolled out a new interactive map to look up any NBA team’s influence on the U.S. and Canada. Now, the map gives off some fairly predictable information like the Los Angeles Lakers, despite their recent troubles, control the most territory in the country. And something that is equally unsurprising, Canada is pretty much controlled by the Toronto Raptors.

As for unusual information, different portions of Alaska root for some odd teams: with the Miami Heat being the most popular in Bethel County, the Chicago Bulls ruling the Yukon-Koyukuk County and two others, the Oklahoma City Thunder ruling the Wade Hampton County and the Los Angeles Lakers controlling the rest.

This map is just a fun little way to play around and look at the far reaching layers of NBA fandom throughout Canada and the United States. Simply, you can lose hours just going from county to county looking up fairly detailed numbers.
