San Francisco 49ers’ running back Christian McCaffrey didn’t seem to be bothered by an injury – he played all 53 snaps on Monday night against the Vikings.
He has been considered day-to-day after suffering an oblique injury in Week 6. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the star running back received “encouraging” MRI results.
McCaffrey did not practice on Thursday.
As of Thursday evening, his status has been upgraded from a ribs/oblique injury to an oblique injury following the MRI.

A reporter asked Shanahan Thursday if he was overworking McCaffrey, who has had his fair share of injuries over the course of his career. The running back has been one of the most active in the league and has propelled the offense since his arrival in 2022.
“I mean, we treat him as our starting running back,” Shanahan said. “So I don’t think about how many touches we wanna give somebody in a year. That’s week to week and how the game goes. He gets a lot more extra with how he gets thrown to in the passing game.”
Without McCaffrey for part of the game last week, San Francisco suffered its first loss of the season against the Cleveland Browns, losing 19-17 after 49ers kicker Jake Moody missed a field goal as time expired.
