How Will New York Jets Use Davante Adams After Blockbuster Trade For WR?

A week after firing their head coach and a day after blowing a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, the New York Jets traded for Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams in exchange for a conditional third-round pick that can turn into a second based on how Adams performs in New York. The Jets are currently re-working the 31-year-old’s contract, but the Raiders did not take back any money, a surprise given the length of Adams’ deal.

Two weeks ago, Adams officially requested a trade from Las Vegas in the third season of a five-year contract. He initially headed west to play with his college quarterback Derek Carr, but he left Vegas two years ago, and Adams has been on no man’s list ever since. The Jets were rumored to be the leading player in a trade, given the history in Green Bay between Aaron Rodgers and Adams. With the Jets sitting at 2-4 and quickly fading out of the playoff picture, they called their shot. On Tuesday, Adams dove into his feelings about the move.

“It’s been a roller coaster, for sure,” he said. “It’s a weird thing to say that I’m happy, but, obviously, it was time for a change This whole thing kind of transpired a little weird, but at the end of the day, we’re in a better place. I think that the Raiders are in a better place as well, and everybody can kind of move on.”

New York takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road on Sunday Night Football this week, and Adams expects to make his Jets debut, even after missing the last couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. Both teams need this win as they are expected to be in contention for a Wild Card spot at the end of the season. Currently, ESPN Bet says the Jets are two-point favorites away from home.
