On the eve of free agency, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges was arrested in Los Angeles on felony domestic violence charges. According to reports, an unidentified woman was involved in a dispute with Bridges that left her requiring medical attention.
Bridges was arrested early Wednesday afternoon but was released later that evening after posting $130,000 bail. The young star has a court date set for July 20. Representatives of Bridges have not released any comment, however, the Charlotte Hornets released a statement regarding Bridges’ arrest saying, “The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges, we are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Bridges was the leading scorer for the Hornets last season averaging 20.2 points and 7.0 rebounds, both career-highs. The Hornets extended Bridges a qualifying offer on Tuesday as he was set to become a restricted free agent. This would allow Charlotte to match any offer received from another team. The team was adamant about bringing the 6’7″ forward back to the Hornets, with GM Mitch Kupchak saying, “As an organization, we love Miles. We are going to bring him back. He has been great for the franchise, and I believe, with his work ethic, he’s only going to get better.”
Bridges was the 12th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was a star player from Michigan State where he averaged 17 points a game in his two seasons under Coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans.
