Grizzlies’ Ja Morant Left Game Vs. Nets In Wheelchair With Sprained Left Ankle

Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant left Monday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center in a wheelchair after a scary fall that sprained his left ankle.

Fortunately, there is no fracture and the team is awaiting results from an MRI that took place on Tuesday.

Ja Morant is known to have an aggressive playing style, and while this is something that makes him all the more fun to watch, it also makes him more susceptible to injuries. In fact, he missed games throughout last season due to similar falls to this one.

Monday night’s injury occurred with 2:42 left in the second quarter as the Grizzlies were leading the Nets by a score of 51-45. Morant was attempting to block a jump shot by Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot but instead, he landed on Luwawu-Cabarrot’s foot and rolled his own ankle. Morant immediately hopped off the court and looked to be in a great deal of pain as he was taken into the locker room in a wheelchair.

After the game, Morant tweeted, “every setback is a setup for a comeback. God wants to bring you out better than you were before,” and added, “heard you.”

Though the season is just beginning, the reigning Rookie of the Year got off to a good start, averaging 36 points and eight assists in the first two games with the Grizzlies this season.

Not only are the Grizzlies dealing with injuries of other key players, but they are also part of the competitive Western Conference. Jaren Jackson Jr. has not played this season because of a knee injury and Justise Winslow is still recovering from a hip injury.
