Gonzaga Men’s Basketball Coach Mark Few Arrested For Drunk Driving

On Sept. 7, at approximately 8 p.m., Gonzaga University men’s basketball coach Mark Few was pulled over for suspected drunk driving and now faces DUI charges. The incident took place roughly 30 minutes away from Gonzaga’s campus in the town of Couer D’Alene, Idaho.

Police in the area were responding to a report of a black SUV swerving in and out of lanes. After being pulled over, Few told the questioning police officer, Matthew Lovingler, that he had a couple of beers over the course of the day. After further questioning, noticing Few’s bloodshot eyes and smelling alcohol on his breath, Lovingler decided to handcuff and book him.

Few released a statement following his arrest apologizing for his “lapse in judgment.” “I deeply regret disappointing any members of the community, the young men and women who comprise my campus community and the University as a whole,” he said. “I am sorry for the hurt I caused to those most important to me — my family, my players and my program.”

Zaga and coach Few performed remarkably in the 2020-21 season, steamrolling over most teams in their conference. They went 31-1, with their only loss handed to them by Baylor in the National Championship.
