Lawrence Taylor has been charged again for an incident relating to his status as a sex offender. Taylor turned himself into jail in Broward County, Florida, on Wednesday after authorities released a felony warrant for his arrest for a failure to report a change in residence. Taylor was charged for a similar offense in December 2021.

“My client, Lawrence Taylor, will be pleading ‘Not Guilty’ to the recent charges,” Taylor’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in a statement. “As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit any criminal offense. The situation is a significant misunderstanding. We are confident that, once the prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again achieve a favorable outcome.”

The former New York Giants linebacker has been registered as a sex offender since 2011, when he pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute in New York. Taylor has repeatedly claimed that he did not know the girl was underage.

Because of his status as a sex offender, Taylor must report changes in residence, along with other provisions related to the 2011 ruling. Earlier this month, he was listed as having a permanent address reported in Broward County and a temporary address reported in Palm Beach County, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Taylor has spent much of the past two decades in legal disputes, an unfortunate relapse following a troubled career involving drug addiction and other incidents off the field. Shortly after his retirement, he claimed to be seeking help but has been arrested for many incidents related to substance abuse since.

As a member of the Giants for his entire 13-season, he made 10 Pro Bowl appearances and won two Super Bowls, two Defensive Player of the Year awards and an MVP award in 1986.
