Giants Indefinitely Suspend CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie After Argument With Coach

The New York Giants’ woes continue to grow this season.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Suspension News

On Wednesday, the team announced that cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has been indefinitely suspended.

Coach Ben McAdoo initially declined to reveal the reason for the suspension, but then said he was upset with how angrily Rodgers-Cromartie reacted following the Giants’ 27-22 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday to go 0-5.

The cornerback reportedly said he wanted to leave the team.

This move allegedly took several Giants players by surprise.

“It surprised all of us when we heard what happened,” said safety Landon Collins.

This comes after the G-Men lost four wide receivers in Sunday’s loss. Odell Beckham Jr and offseason Jets acquisition Brandon Marshall have both undergone season-ending surgery on their ankles, while Sterling Shepard (ankle) is also injured. Dwayne Harris is equally out for the season with a foot injury.

Rodgers-Cromartie was apparently angered by the fact that he started at an outside cornerback spot, as Eli Apple was benched for the first three defensive series. Once Apple was put in the game, Rodgers-Cromartie moved inside to his usual — but not his preferred — slot position. In the fourth quarter, he got stepped on and left with an apparent Achilles issue, and attempted to return but only made one more play.

The cornerback ended up playing 40 of the 78 defensive snaps.

After Beckham was penalized for his dog-peeing touchdown celebration in Week 3 in Philadelphia, Giants coaches established a policy of punishing “game-day distractions” with playing time instead of fines.

The Giants visit the 3-1 Denver Broncos on Sunday night.
