FSU’s Marvin Wilson Disputes That Head Coach Mike Norvell Reached Out On George Floyd’s Death

During an interview with The Athletic earlier this week, Florida State University’s head football coach, Mike Norvell, said that he had “a lot of open communication” with his players in the wake of the death of George Floyd. “And that was something that was important to me because this is a heartbreaking time in our country. You see hate and you see discrimination. You see some of the acts that have occurred. I mean, it’s a problem. And it’s something that we have to stand together and we have to work to get it fixed.”

On Thursday morning however, one Florida State player, Marvin Wilson, denied having a one-on-one conversation with Norvell. Saying in a post on Twitter, “Man this s**t did not happen mane. We got a generated text that was sent to everybody. There was no one on one talk between us and coach. This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice.”

Florida State athletic director David Coburn confirmed that the football team met on Thursday. The Seminoles are scheduled to host voluntary workouts on their campus as was permitted by the NCAA a few weeks ago.
