Floyd Mayweather’s Mouthpiece Valued At $25,000

Everyone knows that Floyd Mayweather is a big spender. He is probably the best paid fighter in the sport and he flaunts it every chance he gets. And what better way to spend his money, then to prepare for the biggest fight/payday of his career, the May 2 Pacquiao fight.

So he worked with Dr. Lee Gause — a New York City dentist who has worked with the fighter since 2012 — to prepare a mouthpiece worth $25,000. The cost of the mouth guard is not because of Dr. Lee’s material — the doctor’s Iceberg Guards run in the $195 to $325 range;  “Money” Mayweather decided to customize it with flakes of gold and shards of $100 bills.

On top of this, the good doctor told the New York Daily News that Mayweather is also an “absolute perfectionist” and it took approximately five to ten molds to get the right mouthpiece, which resulted in the high $25,000 price tag. But what exactly makes this mouth guard so worthwhile?

“The claim that we’re making is that these will make you breathe better,” Dr. Gause told the Daily News. “Our mouth guard may be one percent better than the competition, but one percent is the difference between winning and losing. Good athletes and great athletes are in tune with that one percent.”

The world shall see if this $25,000 mouthpiece was worth it on May 2, when he faces Pacquiao in a fight that was a decade in the making.
