Darryl Hamilton, former New York Met and current MLB Network analyst, was found dead after his girlfriend allegedly shot him, according to the Houston Chronicle
Cops were called to the Pearland home after a reported disturbance. And when they arrived, the police witnessed the gruesome scene, as Hamilton lay dead near the front entryway with several gunshot wounds. The assailant, his girlfriend Monica Jordan, was in another room dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound, according to the Houston Chronicle. The couple’s 13-month-old child was found unharmed and was turned over to child services.
Hamilton played for five different teams over his 13-year career — the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies and finally the New York Mets. Over that time, the outfielder batted .291 with 1,333 hits, 51 home runs, 454 RBIs and 163 stolen bases.
Most notably, the journeyman played during 2000’s famous subway World Series between the Mets and Yankees and also delivered the first ever hit during interleague play in 1997. In 2013, he began working for the MLB Network as a baseball analyst and even covered some Brewers and Angels games.

Since then, the MLB Network, the commissioner and some teams have released statements about the tragic incident.
“All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy,” Commissioner Manfred said in a press release. “Darryl followed a successful 13-year career on the field by assembling a multifaceted career in our game, working for MLB Advanced Media and in our Baseball Operations Department before moving on to MLB Network. He was a talented and personable individual, and we were proud to call him a member of the Baseball Family. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest sympathies to Darryl’s family and his many friends throughout our game.”
During Friday night’s home game against the Reds, the Mets plan to hold a moment of silence for both Hamilton and former owner Nelson Doubleday Jr.
