Ernie Johnson Gives His Sports Emmy To Stuart Scott’s Daughters

Get ready to get the tissues out. During the 36th annual Sports Emmy Awards show, Stuart Scott, the longtime ESPN host who passed away at the start of 2015, was honored for his work in the field. However, he was also up for Outstanding Sports Personality, where he was against Bob Costas, Rich Eisen, Keith Olbermann, Matt Vasgersian and Ernie Johnson.

Unfortunately, Scott did not win, as the award was given to the host of TNT’s Inside the NBA, Ernie Johnson. But the three-time winner did something during his acceptance speech that nobody could have expected. He called up Stuart Scott’s daughters, Taelor and Sydni, and gave them the award. “This belongs to Stuart Scott,” he told them. “This is your Emmy.”

Afterwards, Scott’s daughters delivered a short but sweet acceptance speech that honored their father. “And we just wanted to say how grateful we are to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and also Mr. Johnson for acknowledging our father in a way that we don’t understand the gravity of because he’s just our dad,” Taelor said. “We are honored to be here.”

“We also would like to thank our ESPN family for making sure we could be here on this special night,” Sydni added. “It means so much to us.”
