Eli Manning, Giants Defense Lead Team To 28-23 Win Over Eagles

Eli Manning threw for four touchdowns and the New York Giants‘ defense had two interceptions and three stops on fourth downs to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 28-3 at home on Sunday.

The game marked the Giants’ (5-3) third straight victory, and they held off the Eagles (4-4) after Manning was intercepted by Jordan Hicks with less than two minutes remaining. Philadelphia has now lost four of their last five games.

Two of Manning’s TDs went to Odell Beckham Jr., and Roger Lewis Jr. and Sterling Shepard each scored one.

The game was marked by big offensive plays–six of more than 30 yards in the first half alone– and defensive plays– (four interceptions) and special teams (Jason Pierre-Paul’s block of a field goal, Darren Sproles’ 66-yard punt return).

Most of Sunday, it was a mismatch of Manning and his receiving squad against a porous Eagles secondary.

Less than two minutes into the game, Landon Collins made his third interception in the last two games. One minute afterwards, Manning hit Beckham on a slant after Leodis McKelvin failed to bump him at the line, and Beckham raced into the end zone for a 26-yard score.

Giants safety Andrew Adams, a rookie from UConn, had no interceptions in his previous five games. On Sunday, however, he caught Carson Wentz’s high pass moments later, returning it 19 yards. Manning hit Lewis three plays later after McKelvin and Jaylen Watkins collided and it was 14-0.

The Giants’ third TD came on a 1-yard jump ball to Beckham over McKelvin to make it 21-10.

Wentz gave a very lackluster performance overall, often seeming confused by coverages. Twice, Philadelphia failed on short fourth downs while in field goal range.

The QB was slightly better in the second half, however, rapidly pushing the Eagles 70 yards to Kenjon Barner’s 3-yard TD run.

Manning, however, countered on the following drive, throwing his fourth TD 32 yards to rookie Shepard. That gave Manning his first four-TD game since Game 14 last season.

Caleb Sturgis scored two field goals for the Eagles. However, Philadelphia went 3 for 15 on third downs and 1 for 4 on fourth downs.

The Eagles will next host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, while the Giants will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, Nov. 14.
