Eli Manning Explains Deadpan Reaction To Brother Peyton’s Super Bowl Win

Eli Manning probably should have known that his reaction to the result of Sunday’s Super Bowl was going to be not only filmed, but scrutinized.

Sure enough, the New York Giants quarterback and his whole family was shown reacting to Manning’s older brother Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos scoring the game-sealing two-point conversion at the end of Super Bowl 50. Although the rest of the family seemed overjoyed, Eli simply looked stunned and gave his mother Olivia a very lackluster high-five. Some attributed this reaction to possible jealousy: the two Manning brothers are now tied with two Super Bowl wins.

TMZ Sports ambushed Eli Manning at the airport to explain his reaction that went viral on social media.

“I was just focused on whether they’d go for two, and I knew the defense had to step up and make some stops,” Manning stated.

The Manning brothers have been imagined by many as competing against each other for Super Bowl wins and other similar titles, although Peyton quickly dispelled this image at the post-game press conference, just as he had done before. He recalled sharing a moment with Eli in the locker room following his win over the Carolina Panthers at Super Bowl 50, and even said of reminded him of being with Eli when his younger brother won his first Super Bowl.

“We don’t do that. That’s not what we do,” Peyton said, clearly bothered by the question during the conference about getting bragging rights for his second Super Bowl win to tie with Eli. “Maybe you guys and your brothers do that, but we don’t do that.”

The Broncos defeated the Panthers 24-10 at Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday. Whether Peyton Manning will officially retire or not is not known yet.
