The XFL seemed like a snake-bitten idea before a global pandemic de-railed any chance of its return earlier this year. While it made an attempts at a comeback this year, the Vince McMahon-owned company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy a few months later. But, in a twist that led some to believe it was actually the beginning of a convoluted WWE arch, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, along with many other investors, bought the company from McMahon in August. This led many to speculate when and in what form the league would return. On his Twitter account Thursday morning, Johnson revealed when the XFL would be returning, “XFL returns SPRING 2022 As owners, we’re proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities, and fans into an electrifying 2022 season! It’s an uphill battle – but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us. A league of culture, passion & purpose.”
The XFL only got through five games in their return to play earlier in 2020. Here’s hoping this time that they can at least complete a season this time around.
