Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Finally Improving After Losing 20 Pounds In Two Weeks
No Los Angeles Dodger has received more press in the past couple of weeks than star shortstop Mookie Betts, although not for the reasons you might hope. Betts has been forced to miss much of spring training with an unknown illness, reportedly losing about 18 pounds in two weeks as he was unable to keep solid food down.
“I’m practicing all day and my body’s just kind of eating itself and so it’s hard to not fuel it,” Betts said. “And so every time, literally, every time I fuel my body, I throw it up.”
Monday finally brought good news for Dodgers fans on that front: general manager Dave Roberts announced that Betts was able to hold down solid foods again, and that he was expected to play in L.A.’s final spring training game on Tuesday. Roberts added that he was “really encouraged” by Betts’ progress, which included a full workout at Dodger Stadium on Monday.

“He tried solid food, kept it down, got through his workout, and he’s going to go home and eat some more solid food,” said Roberts.
Betts, an eight-time All-Star and four-time MLB First Teamer, will likely be back for the Dodgers’ home opener on Thursday. His skill set will be integral as the Dodgers, who are early favorites to win the 2025 World Series, look to repeat.
