Dodgers’ Kiké Hernández Suffers Another Injury & Prospects For Rest Of Season Don’t Look Great

Kiké Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered another injury setback this week when the veteran was injured during the game against the Colorado Rockies with a left oblique strain.

The injury came just two games after Hernández returned from the injured list following offseason elbow surgery. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later confirmed that Hernández would return to the injured list, but the team does not believe it is season-ending. However, he could be out most of the year.

Hernández appeared to suffer the injury while running the bases during the fourth inning of the Dodgers’ 15-6 victory over the Rockies. The veteran was visibly frustrated and disappointed as he walked back to the dugout, eventually heading into the clubhouse with the team trainers.

The setback marked another frustrating moment for Hernández, who missed the start of the 2026 season while recovering from elbow surgery during the offseason.

The Dodgers sit in first place in the NL West with a 35-20 record. This is significant because Hernández remains one of the Dodgers’ most valuable players due to his versatility. He has played nearly every position on the field and is a fan favorite in Los Angeles for his energy and clutch playoff performances.

The Dodgers now face another challenge managing injuries during an already difficult stretch of the season. Los Angeles has dealt with multiple health concerns involving key players throughout the year, including injuries to both pitchers and position players across the roster.

Despite the injury scare, the Dodgers managed one of their highest-scoring games of the season. Mookie Betts hit two home runs, while Shohei Ohtani remained in the lineup after briefly leaving the game following a hit by pitch.

For Hernández, this will be another difficult obstacle to overcome in his effort to return this season.
