Arizona Diamondbacks Chief Baseball Officer Tony La Russa understandably wasn’t happy after both Jean Segura and Nick Ahmed were hit in the head by pitches during Tuesday’s game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Diamondbacks CBO Tony La Russa Storms Pirates Radio Booth After Criticisms

However, La Russa surprised everyone when he stormed the Pirates’ radio booth during a live broadcast. The radio crew was reportedly criticizing the executive’s opinion about the Pirates’ habit of drilling D-backs players, so La Russa ran in to confront them.

That was his version of the story, at least.

“I never have stood for inaccuracies, so I corrected the inaccuracies,” said La Russa. “It’s about taking responsibility. If you’re going to speak untruths then you’re going to get challenged and you should be responsible for what you say. I am. I reacted.”

Pirates radio broadcaster Greg Brown also confirmed that La Russa did in fact storm the booth, but also added that the crew didn’t say anything inaccurate. Both La Russa and Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale had spoken out about the Pirates’ pitchers.

The two teams will not play each other again this season. Pirates reliever Arquimedes Caminero hit both Ahmed and Segura during Tuesday’s game, which the Pirates won 12-1. The Pirates also beat the D-backs on Wednesday and Thursday at PNC Park.

La Russa hasn’t managed a baseball game in more than four seasons.
