Dez Bryant played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2010-2017, and on Sunday, the wide receiver called out Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, director of player personnel Stephen Jones and former Cowboy tight end and current Las Vegas Raider, Jason Witten saying that the three should attend protests showing unity in a post on Twitter.
In his tweet, Bryant said, “Somebody should have brought Jerry jones Stephen jones and Jason witten to this protest down in Austin……this is not a policy change this is a heart change and yea I said it. I don’t feel like I’m calling them out but I feel they will get a different understanding of what unity really look like.”
Despite the team releasing a video on Friday saying that they condemn racism and that they support their players, Jones has been one of the most vocal people against NFL players protesting during the national anthem. In 2017, Jones said that players who knelt during the national anthem would never play for his team. “We cannot in any way give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag,” he said. “We know that there is a serious debate in this country about those issues, but there is no question in my mind, that the [NFL] and the Dallas Cowboys are going to stand up for the flag.”

Witten responded to his former teammates tweet, saying “Dez – When I saw your tweet, I tried to call you. I don’t know what you’re feeling, but I do know what I stand for and believe in. I believe it’s time for change. I believe we must all listen. I believe together is the way. Let’s unite and impact change together. Much Love.”
