Coach Kyle Whittingham said that “he’s our QB right now” in regard to questions about whether Bryce Underwood may be replaced after the concerning matchup with Western Michigan last weekend.
It took a last-minute Hail Mary, which, in Underwood’s defense, he did throw, to get the victory over Western Michigan even though they were around 30-point favorites.
Whittingham made sure to say that “at some point, we’ve got to turn a corner” in his presser on Monday. He does not believe his comments on Underwood are final, but he stood by Underwood throughout the interview.
Underwood is the nation’s top recruit. He had an up-and-down season last year, but the Whittingham coaching staff remained committed to him in the offseason.

Whittingham said that Underwood was good in training camp, but after a good opening drive that saw Michigan score, Underwood couldn’t get the team on the board again until the final Hail Mary.
His only passing touchdown came on the final play, and he only threw for 170 yards, completing just north of 50% of his passes. Underwood also had an interception in the game.
