Details Emerge Of Failed Panthers-Browns Baker Mayfield Trade

About a month ago, the Browns and Panthers were flirting with a possible trade for quarterback Baker Mayfield, which, of course, eventually fell apart.

The rumor mill said the sides were too far apart with regards to how much the Browns would eat of Mayfield’s $18.8 million (fully guaranteed!) salary.

Reports have now surfaced that Carolina wanted Cleveland to pay around $13-$14 million of the total, which the Browns clearly scoffed at. The Panthers instead decided to draft QB Matt Corral out of Mississippi in the third round.

It could work in the Browns’ favor to keep Mayfield around, as Deshaun Watson may be suspended for a large amount of time due to his massage shenanigans.
