DeAndre Hopkins Signs Two-Year $54 Million Extension With Arizona Cardinals
On Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals announced that they were signing star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a two-year, $54.5 million extension. The Cardinals traded for Hopkins from the Texans this offseason adding a premiere target for second-year quarterback and dark-horse, most-improved player, Kyler Murray. In that blockbuster trade, the Cardinals parted ways with running back David Johnson, a second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick to add the star receiver to the team. On their Twitter, the Cardinals showed a picture of Hopkins signing his contract.
“It’s ownership and me believing in myself and my abilities to study the terminology of contracts and me knowing where I want to be after football,” he said. “I know that one day I want to be part of an organization to help build it, so I feel like this was a good time to learn and study everything that hopefully one day I’ll be doing. So, I think also just showing other players that you can get things done yourself.”
The Cardinals are a popular dark horse payoff pick this year and with his signing of Hopkins, they are showing that they are committed to making a real run at the playoffs this year.
