David Pastrnak Scores Twice To Lead Bruins To 4-3 OT Win Over Panthers

David Pastrnak scored his second goal of the game with 3:37 left in overtime, and Tuukka Rask made 27 saves to lead the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 home victory over the Florida Panthers on Monday night.

David Pastrnak Scores Twice To Lead Bruins To 4-3 OT Win Over Panthers

Pastrnak got his team-leading 15th goal by cutting in from the left wing, shifting around goalie Roberto Luongo and netting the game-winner, leaving his teammates in awe in the process.

“The goal was just the skill of David showing what he can do,” Bruins captain Zdeno Chara said.

Chara returned after missing six games with a lower-body injury. The Bruins (15-10-1) have now won three straight and are 4-0-1 in their past five games. David Krejci had two assists.

Rask also praised Pastrnak for his performance.

“He’s very creative,” said Rask. “He’s been a talent for many, many years and now he’s finally taking the last step and kind of making a real name for himself in the league.”

David Backles and Tim Schaller also scored for Boston.

Jaromir Jagr had a goal for the Panthers, the 754th of his career, and Luongo made 32 saves. With his goal, Jagr moved to within six points of Mark Messier for second on the all-time scoring list with 18,81 points.

“I said we’ve got to pull together and I thought the guys did that in the third,” Florida general manager/interim coach Tom Rowe said. “That third period is what we are capable of.”

Aleksander Barkov and Jason Demers also scored for the Panthers (12-11-3), who are 1-2-2 through the first five games of its six-game road trip.

Florida trailed by one goal twice in the third period, but Demers’ goal with 1:29 left helped the Panthers earn a point in the standings.

Schaller gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 18:32 of the first period. Before his goal, Schaller slid a pass down the wall to Krejci behind the net. Schaller had skated all the way out to the blue line, but then drove to the net and beat Luongo with a one-timer following the pass from Krejci.

Florida tied it 1-1 on Jagr’s goal at 9:44 of the second, although Pasternak then netted a one-timer from the slot at 16:37 to put Boston back in front.

Barkov tied it 2-2 at 7:54 of the third with a wrist shot between the circles.

Luongo robbed Ryan Spooner with an incredible glove save at 2:31 of the first period.

Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle sustained a lower-body injury in the first period. Rowe said Yandle “is going to be out for a while.”

Bruins forward Matt Beleskey missed his first game since injuring his right knee in a 2-1 victory at Buffalo on Saturday. Beleskey is expected to miss six weeks.

The Panthers next visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, while the Bruins will visit the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
