Dallas Mavericks Win NBA Draft Lottery Despite Just 1.8% Chance, Likely To Get Cooper Flagg

The Dallas Mavericks’ front office and general manager, Nico Harrison, has been heavily criticized because of the decision to trade superstar Luka Doncic.

Despite just a 1.8% chance to win the draft lottery, it appears the Mavericks will have a new star to fill the void left by Doncic.

Cooper Flagg is the projected number one overall pick and will almost certainly hear his name called by Dallas come June 25.

The Mavericks finished the 2025 season with a record of 39-43 and with the eleventh highest odds for the right to the number one overall pick.

The Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets and Utah Jazz all entered the night tied for the highest odds at the first overall pick at 14%. None of them the top three in the lottery.

The future of the Dallas Mavericks has changed overnight. A starting lineup that includes Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis and possibly Flagg is set to win now and in the future.

Fans were reportedly cancelling season tickets in droves. The Mavericks were expected to lose millions in revenue from the Doncic trade solely based on fan reaction.

With Flagg likely becoming a Maverick, many of these fans may reignite their fandom.

If Flagg is the caliber of player most expect he will be, what is considered one of the worst trades in NBA history could work in the Mavericks favor.
