While the score of the Lord of the Rings played at the stadium, fans were chosen to present the elegant jewelry.
Each ring contains 108 diamonds, which represents the number of years that passed since the Cubs’ previous World Series title in 1908.
The rings also contain sapphires and rubies on the team logo at the center. The sides of the rings are marked with the squad’s famous “W” flag and the marquee that is on the facade of Wrigley Field.
“It was truly an honor to help design the first World Series ring in franchise history, and our family is thrilled to reward those who contributed to this long-awaited championship,” Cubs owner Tom Ricketts said. “It’s fitting the players who completed the greatest journey in sports were presented with their rings by some of the greatest fans in all of sports.”
There’s also a goat emblazoned on the ring, to symbolize the famous curse of the goats installed by other teams to stop the Cubs from winning. Cleveland Indians fans brought goats to the team’s home stadium, Progressive Field, ahead of the World Series last fall to keep the Cubs curse alive.
The Cubs also defeated the Dodgers 4-0 on Thursday afternoon to win the three-game series 2-1.
