Cowboy’s Trevon Diggs Apologizes To Local Reporter After Outburst Over Online Criticism Of His Effort

After the Dallas Cowboys loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs burst out of the locker room in full uniform to confront local beat reporter Mike Leslie about a tweet he sent during the game. The tweet questioned Diggs’ effort covering 49ers tight end George Kittle as it looked like he jogged into coverage, but the DB said he slow-played him.

“That’s what you took from that? Out of that whole play, that’s what you took from that? You don’t know football,” Diggs said. “You can’t do nothing that I do. You can’t go out there and do nothing. Stay in your lane, buddy. Stop trying me, dog.”

Leslie and Diggs worked it out on Wednesday, and they each stated they have no animosity.

“He apologized for the hallway incident, and I apologized for misreading the play — he explained that what I interpreted as him jogging was, in fact, him slow-playing a potential cutback from Kittle,” Leslie said. “We buried the hatchet with a couple of canisters of Dee’s Nuts that he presented to me after his interview with the press was complete.”

Diggs may have been pushed to come to terms with Leslie by head coach Mike McCarthy who disagreed with his player’s actions.

“But I think we have to be better in those moments. I always talk about staying on a high road,” he said. “That’s part of our responsibility in this business. But I’m not ignorant or naive to the fact that this generation that’s part of the world they live in, the social media world. You have to manage that. That’s part of being a professional athlete, and that’s part of representing this organization properly.”

The Cowboys dropped to 3-4 for their second straight loss and take on the Atlanta Falcons, who lead the NFC South, on the road Sunday.
