Cowboys Release Allen Hurns, Dolphins Sign Receiver To One-Year, $3 Million Deal

Former Dallas Cowboys veteran receiver Allen Hurns was released earlier this week but signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.

Hurns played one season for the Cowboys, racking up 295 yards with 20 catches and two touchdowns. He was unfortunately injured in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks, and had to get surgery for a broken fibula. NFL Network says he will “be good to go by the beginning of the season.”

Hurns is most known for his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he logged over 1,000 yards in 2015 and scored 10 times. He and Allen Robinson formed a positive dynamic receiver combo. They have both since left the Jags, with Robinson playing for the Chicago Bears now and Hurns having moved to Miami.

Hurns tweeted about his new contract with the Dolphins, saying, “truly appreciate all the prayers. If you know me you know I don’t lack having faith. I trust and thank the man above through the ups and downs. Ready to attack this recovery process, better believe I will come back on a mission.”

Other than his Wild Card injury, Hurns has been unlucky in the past few seasons, missing five games in 2016 with a torn hamstring and another six games in 2017 after he sprained his ankle.

“If he’s not ready to compete for a position, this isn’t the place for him. Allen understands that,” head coach Brian Flores said, according to ESPN. “There’s no solidified or locked-in spots here. You’ve got to earn them.”

The Dolphins are in a rebuilding set, with Ryan Fitzpatrick or Josh Rosen set to lead the offense. Hurns joins a group of receivers with Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson and DeVante Parker.

“I feel like competition brings out the best in guys,” Hurns said, according to ESPN. “I feel like this is a good opportunity for me. I’m ready to get put my head down and work.”

Hurns has a one-year deal worth $3 million.
