Could The Raptors Get Even Better With Athony Davis?

The Toronto Raptors have been one of the NBA’s most pleasant surprises this season, but could they possibly be even better?

Christian Clark of The Athletic reported that the Raptors have emerged as one of the favorites to trade for Anthony Davis.

Davis was part of the Luka Doncic trade that shook the NBA world in 2025. A year later, the Mavericks are one of the worst teams in the league and are looking to acquire young assets.

The Raptors made a trade for Brandon Ingram last trade deadline. Although he didn’t end up playing for the Raptors in 2024-25, his impact has quickly been felt this season. The Raptors currently have a 23-15 record, good for fourth in the Eastern Conference.

A trade package for Davis would likely include Immanuel Quickly and Jakob Poeltl. Both of these players have been disappointing so far this season. Draft picks would also likely be involved.

Another team that Clark mentioned was the Hawks.

On January 7, they traded Trae Young to the Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. With Clint Capela leaving this offseason for the Rockets, the Hawks have a hole at the center spot. Davis would look to complement rising stars Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Walker-Alexander.

With Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton injured, the East is wide open. The Raptors could make the finals if they got Davis. The main question with him is always his health. He’s only had one truly healthy season since the 2020 championship.

The Raptors took a similar roll of the dice on Kawhi Leonard in the 2018 offseason. With just one season left on his contract, he led the Raptors to their first NBA championship. Although he left in the 2019 offseason, the championship trophy made it more than worth it.
