Arrowhead Stadium, where the Kansas City Chiefs play their games, has been expected to receive significant renovations for years, likely after the 2026 World Cup. Now, though, the Chiefs have retained third-party firm CSL International to evaluate their best options moving forward – including the construction of an entirely new stadium.

The firm will conduct market research, granting key stakeholders the opportunity to share their thoughts on anything from amenities to seating options.

“As we continue exploring options and zeroing in on the decision that will be best for the organization and our fans in the long term, the next step in the process is to gather stakeholder input on various aspects of the stadium experience – whether that’s part of a renovation or a new build,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said Thursday in a news release.

CSL has worked on stadium construction for other professional sports teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Chicago Bears.

With the Arrowhead lease expiring in 2031 and county voters in Missouri rejecting a proposal that would have ensured that the Chiefs remained, the organization is also considering a potential move across state lines. Kansas and Missouri are currently competing for the right to keep the Chiefs.

“If we end up renovating, it’s more likely that we renovate our existing infrastructure,” said Donovan. “They’re tied together because if you build a new stadium in Kansas, you’re going to build a new facility.”

For the Chiefs players, who have consistently rated their team facilities dead last in the league, that might only be an incentive.

The Kansas state legislature passed a bill with generous tax incentives last year. The Chief’s lawyer said recently it was time for Kansas to “step up” if wants to Chiefs to move.
