Colorado Rockies Ticket Prices Reflect How Their Season Is Going So Far

The Colorado Rockies started the 2019 season going 3-12, including a notorious eight game losing streak, Rockies fans are furious with their team. Tickets on StubHub at home are as low as $6 for a ticket, including games versus the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Toronto Blue Jays, with infield box tickets going as low as $30. To compare, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees lowest cost for tickets is over $30, and infield tickets costs ranging from under $300 to over $1200 for infield suites. Even when the Rockies travel to Wrigley Field to face the Cubs, tickets can cost as high as $111.

It goes without saying that the culture of baseball, and the popularity of it, is quite different in Colorado, compared to the likes of New York, Boston and Chicago. However, the support from fans has been lacking, as the prices of tickets show.

Nevertheless, the Rockies finish through Memorial Day under .500, going 24-27, 4th in the NL West, 10 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Stats show that the Rockies recent run of form is not showing great promise. Pinch hitter Mark Reynolds is 1-18 in appearances this season. Also, the Rockies are a shocking 3-11 when catcher Chris Lannetta starts. When Lannetta doesn’t start, the Rockies are five games over .500. Also when Lannetta starts, the Rockies have given up seven or more runs in six of his starts.

There are still over a third of the season still to play, but third baseman Nolan Arenado, and potential MLB All-Star doesn’t think the season is still early. According to Rox Pile, “It’s not early any more. I think it’s already happened,” Arenado said in an exclusive chat inside the Colorado clubhouse. “I think the season wasn’t early any more after the Milwaukee series. It’s not early any more. Now it’s a matter of winning.”

The Rockies split the series with the Brewers in late April, making their game difference with the division leaders, the Dodgers, more difficult to come back from.

There is hope for the Rockies however, as another MLB all-star candidate, catcher Tony Wolters is 2nd in the NL in catching baserunners. The 26-year-old is also showing promise on the offensive front, batting .309/.352/.446, which has been much improved since his last season numbers of .170/.292/.286.

With the Rockies 10 games behind NL west leaders, and four behind second and third place, the Rockies know a massive win streak is needed for any chance of them making the postseason come the end of summer.
