The matchup will be held on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, home of the NFL’s Saints. The game will begin at 8 p.m. EST. Although it remains unknown who will face off in the national title game (the semifinals will be held Dec. 28), several top teams could be vying for the top spot. Among the squads that have been on a roll this season are LSU, Ohio State and Clemson, who are all 13-0 and are respectively in first, second and third place in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

No. 4 Oklahoma (12-1), No. 5 Georgia (11-2), No. 6 Florida (10-2) and No. 9 Alabama (10-2) have also all had hot streaks this year.

In last year’s CFP championship game, then-No. 2 Clemson beat then-top-ranked Alabama 44-16 to earn its second title in three years. The Tigers had finished the 2018 season 15-0, while the Crimson Tide had gone 14-1. Should Clemson and Alabama face off again in this year’s game, it would mark the fourth time in five years that the two teams play each other in the CFP national title game. The Tigers and the Tide have been led by top quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Tua Tagovailoa and also boast several other talented players.

The CFP championship game will come after all of the major college bowl contests, including the Rose Bowl, the Peach Bowl, the Chick-Fil-A Bowl and the Citrus Bowl.
